The manufacturers of these products should lower their prices to make it affordable to more people. If people can afford it then there will be less hacking going on.

Possibly. But I rather suspect the thought process on the hacking is "I can, therefore I will." Maybe the tool that you can't get to work properly isn't something you need.
Also, don't know how many of these guys are small-line or one-product companies; some of them definitely are not. So you never really know their economics. Would you reduce the price of a major income generator low enough (if it were even possible) to discourage hacking if you knew that doing it would grieviously damage your company? Interesting question.
Think that I'd be interested in where these numbers come from and how they are generated. Maybe freeware or Linux versions of the programs exist. If they don't, maybe one ought to do the moral thing and consider payng.
