I agree...lots of articles like this that suck you in with a catchy, topical headline, only to discover they are essentially internet infomercials without any substance what- so ever.

Don't waste you money nor time on this scam. If you're a greeny trying to save the planet, the solar panels they're pitching here use more energy and produce green house gases to build than they'll ever really save. The good thing, they're most likely made in China so who knows how much crap they're sending into the air. The most effective use of this is to power a battery pack, another huge environmental challenge. Be they lead-acid, lithium ion or nicad, they all take huge amount of energy to make and recycle while being rather dirty for the environment. You're far better off using a public utility connected to a coal, nuke, hydro or other more conventional power plant.

Obviously the words of a person making their money from energy. I don't know much about these particular solar generators but I can tell by your comment you know absolutely nothing about them. Of course they use batteries because the article states they do.

"You're far better off using a public utility connected to a coal, nuke, hydro or other more conventional power plant."

Hello!! I think everyone would be happy to if the power company would run power lines to their camp site or keep the power on during the hurricane. They are portable power supplies and not for continuous use. Wait, the article stated that too. ROFLMAO

      LOL

I live in Florida. To use the solar panels effectively you need to have them charge a battery and then use an inverter to convert to AC. The battery and panels take up significant room. Don't want them on the roof because they would disappear in a hurricane. For use in an emergency they would need to be able to set up easily. When a hurricane comes through even if it doesn't hit there are clouds in the sky for a couple of days.

That is why we use portable motor powered generators.

Something like this idea would be nice for camping with a trailer so long as you camp where there is sunlight.

It's obvious to me that many of you either didn't read the article or have a problem with reading comprehension. From the article: "A solar power generator is made up of just a few small components, a battery charger, the generator itself, and the frame. The solar panel frames on the generator gather and harness the suns energy and store the energy in a battery to be used later."

The solar generator is intended to be used with a battery.

Many solar devices don't have to have direct sunlight to charge the battery. Anyone with a pocket calculator that works without a battery knows that the calculator will work inside the house without sunlight.
