For the last few months, the Propeller team has been hard at work on a major upgrade to our social news experience. As we near our community's two-year anniversary, I am pleased to announce that this work will soon be complete. We have a lot of exciting news to share!

Hopefully new is better, I am cautiously optomistic...

Cripes... "...a mascot we call the Propeller Professor. With his fashionable beanie and goatee..."

Now we have Maynard G Krebs dropping bennies helping us on the way to propeller cool.

When did this place become "propeller" again?

      And what was it before?

      I'll second the "cautiously optimistic".

Hopefully, it will mean an end to the crap spammers and the sock puppets. Otherwise, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I am always cautious of "New" on the Net but this sounds fab-U-lous. The Digg mentality is dying...and I am sure many like me will spend more time here with faster page loading. Cheers to the tech team!

It's so awesome that awesome doesn't describe its sheer amount of awesomenessity.

I'm still wondering why AOL changed the name from Netscape to Propeller. The Netscape Band name was well known and I would tell folks to come to Netscape and join this new social news site they have. But once the name changed, folks was like "What's Propeller?" etc. etc. I was turned off myself for a while, but I'm looking forward to the new upgrades Propeller (aka Netscape) will have.

Probably because the last "upgrade" of the Netscape browser was an abysmal failure effectively killing the brand.

I wrote an article on how to use "Netscape" that is still featured on AC for new users...LOL, so yeah the name change did hurt.

I forsee a certain nostalgia for the days when I could get in a good daydream while waiting to navigate from one page to the next.

Ah well, this time it was the single one that vanished..

                RIP..

Speaking of which - are virtual public executions of spammers and sock-puppets on the new bill-of-fare??

And, according to defined criteria, of our nemeses??

If so I think I could start learning to knit and play Mme Defarge.

(NEW?) I've been learning how to think ahead when I post comments. JUst post "New" and then when it registers twice edit the second post to "Improved."

Yes ind, I too forsee the nostalgia for the days when a burning desire often becomes a wild and raging fire.

And, when an impetuous and cras retort gets posted twice or even three times. Will the character building through utter humiliation be lost forever?

                  Ha! No worries, huh?

Looking forward to test-driving this new baby!

Hope that you'll also be looking for lots of feedback and that propeller will be a continually evolving medium..

For example, how about some international development, taking into account of - and benefitting from - the simple fact that the www is precisely that and that there's a whole planet out there that's already spinning too.

                And when is D-DAY??!!

                  Yeah, me too.

I want to rive it into a telephone pole at 225 mph, and get out laughing at the mess I've made.

If this means that earthshaking stories like "Dude Gets Slapped in the Face with a Fish" won't be hogging a front page slot for a week, then whoo-hooo!

                      Words are cheap.

Besides, we've heard all those words before.

will my heart be able to handle it?

It's sort of like GW or Big Bill saying "trust me"

I tried to post a comment, but after 5 minutes it has seemed to disappear - short term memory loss is a definite detriment to using this site as of now

Sounds like "new and improved" could be more intrusive. I'm not interested in linking to AOL-- too intrusive.

I hope the new browser doesn't have an issue with memory drain, like the previous versions had.
