Walks away, or plans to take the bid hostile? Microsoft is not known for just giving up on what they want.

It is my guess that they'll take their time. The present value of Yahoo technology, Yahoo eyeballs and Yahoo in the arms of another was likely adjudged to have been less than what MSFT would have had to pay to obtain it in a hostile move. If Yahoo stock price falls and stays down for the next 6 months, Yahoo shareholders will scream (the opposite of yahooooo) and they'll be a much softer target for MSFT's next move.
