Thank god, goddess or the Universe. Whichever. This craziness needs to be put to bed.
Only a crazy company would shut down a site with over 330,000 registered users and over 10 million unique views a month.
Don't worry, fellow Netscape Towners we'll be here when everyone else is gone.

I do not want to get in the middle of this, lol! I hope you are right. I would like to continue reading submissions from the many people of Netscape.

That's ridiculous! Who would make up such nonsense except some jealous rival who thinks that making up such false rumors would turn an old wives tale into a fact. NETwits rulz!

Netscape is and has always been my favorite portal,
I hope it remains so a long time. Love the social news site.

Glad to hear it's just rumor. Although I'd probably see a spike in my personal productivity if it were true.

Ten million visitors a month sounds pretty impressive, until you realize that the old (pre-Jason Calacanis) Netscape portal used to get over twenty million unique users A DAY.
What social bookmarking of news topics accomplishes best is that it allows the most ignorant and least informed opinions equal access. That may sound very "democratic" to you, but it does little to advance knowledge of current events or understanding of the causes of the things that are happening. "The Wisdom of Crowds" is a cruel hoax.

If Netscape, in its present form, can produce revenue for AOL, then it will survive. If it continues to be a financial drain, its days are numbered. That's pretty simple. AOL is not going to keep pouring good money after bad. Calacanis was an opportunist--he took the money and ran. CK Sample was a decent enough fellow, but not the strong leader the site needed, and he was never given the authority to make critical changes that might have strengthened the site. James Marcus has yet to demonstrate any particular talent. I see no reason to expect AOL to keep paying him indefinitely.
It all boils down to money. Oh, woe is me--the evil of corporate greed rears its ugly head once more.

Like I said .. I doubt that AOL just "delete" NS . All folks who works here for this social site (stuff) KNOWS how much work and promotion was done here.
It's more then year of making and building NS and from my point of view , this site still growing and remember D!gg was growing too .
"Deleting" growing community will be more lost and good action !
Yes , there are bills and other stuff which can be problem
in the future for NS .
And yes, they still try to find some solutions how to reduce some stuff here and improve but that's not my job :p
Only I can see in the future is AOL Netscape mixed social portal with new features but for start it will be like sister site of NS .
just my 2 c ;)
