Some technology experts, notably Tim Berners-Lee, have questioned whether one can use the term in a meaningful way, since many of the technology components of "Web 2.0" have existed since the early days of the Web. But hey, he just invented the Internet. What would he know?
I have seen sites recently that take good advantage of what can be done to simplify web use.
More below...
Here's a real-world example. My son is in Army ROTC and is currently going through LDAC. While on a filed exercise, he broke his glasses. After a panicked call from him (he's so nearsighted that he is legally blind without his glasses) I checked and found that Lenscrafters is the only local store that can make a pair of glasses while yoy wait. Even with his Vision Insurance through his college, the tariff was a staggering $315 plus $23.00 for overnight express shipment.

Later, checking on the Web, I discovered www.39dollarglasses.com. It's a great site with super features. You can pick any set of frames and see how they will look on a man's or woman's face based of facial shape. They cover faces that are oval, rectangular, triangular, square, diamond or round shaped and show each frame on both male and female faces of that shape.
I liked the site so much I ordered a back-up set of glasses for my son should the hideously overpriced Lenscrafters glasses go the way of his last pair -- something all too likely when you're engaged in mock battlefield training.
