Intel likes treading in baby upgrade steps, with the chipset supporting DDR2 667/800MHz and 1066MHz unofficially, depending on vendor implementation. This is in addition to new support for DDR3 at 800/1066MHz or 1333MHz, again at the discretion of motherboard manufacturers.
