When brains fail, use bucks, BIG BUCKS!
Micro$oft's monopoly on operating system is withering on the vine as Google is increasing its desktop presence. With its Desktop search engine, Google has put a stake on the most lucrative real estate in computers- the desktop! It can already access EVERYTHING on the computer! By conjecture, it's taking control of the computer is only a matter of a few thousand lines of code. That will spell the slow-motion death of Windows.
What is Micro$oft's defense? Build a better operating system?
Nah!
Vista has already caused a lot of problems to the users!
So the next best thing that M$ can do is buy something that works - like Yahoo! The $100 billion in cash on hand helps in that strategy. But do they have competent and forward-looking management? If they did, they would have gotten into search engine business long time ago. But they chose to sleep at the wheel.
Good for Google!
Now it is catch-up for M$!
Good Luck, Billy Boy!

The merging of the companies may result in either: positive or negative effects.
It is good if Google by competition maintains its innovative standards and Yahoo reciprocates.
Historically Netscape and MS. Explorer where sleeping on the job until Mozilla-Firefox entered the race.
Free enterprise has proven to be the best engine for advancement although monopoly is a brake to progress.
This merging is a double edge knife. Sometime we will learn if good or bad.

Sadly everything M$ touches turns to sh!t... Bloated code in everything they make... Op systems really don't need all the crap they have, but M$ felt it needed to add more lace and fluff to push it onto the consumer.
With each op sys they produce the GUI looks cooler but the bug multiply...
I can't wait to see the slick new Microsoft Yahoo... it will have nifty little transparent pop ups, 3d interface... and only operate on a machine with 2 gig of memory running Vista, and then will only run 70% of the time. Wooo Hooo... can't wait.

It is interesting how Yahoo turns out to be in a possible sell-out position when they had a chance to acquire search engine technology back in the pre-Google era. Yahoo founders arrogantly turned down the opportunity that pre-Google founders had to offer and now Google just eclipsed Yahoo on internet search market. Yahoo could have it cheap but now they pay the ultimate price of selling out the business. Lesson learned: never underestimate a no-name no-money guy with an innovative mind and a passionate heart. Funny thing also is Yahoo and Google founders were both PhD dropouts from Stanford Univ.

Who am I but a lowly tech support guy, but it seems like Microsoft is driven by jealousy and greed, and a need to dominate the world. It seems that they don't care so much about making a great product, as they do about making the most money. I joke that if there is ever a one-world government, Microsoft will be the software provider.

one minor correction:
To use the terms "great product" and "microlimp" in the same sentence violates obsenity standards.

MS reflects Bill Gates personality. As far back as the PC club days Bill was foaming at the mouth about those who shared ideas wrather than buying his repackaged crap at top dollar.
MS isn't actually Evil, just unoriginal, oportunistic, self agradizing, money obsessed and egotistical. In other words, the typical multinational corporation.
Don't kid youselves, all the admitidly great humanitarian work his money has gone to is at his wifes insistance.

Better to ask why the microlimp bunch of lawyer-crooks has 50 billion to spend in the first place.
Microlimp should have as a motto - "CRAP software that our GREAT lawyers are happy to shove down [up] your..."

I hope Microsoft doesn't buy Yahoo. If they do I might have to stop using yahoo. Microsoft will only ruin a good company.
This is microsft's game play since they can't make orginal and quality products. They either try and stong arm the competition, like they did with netscape. If they can't do that they try to buy them, out and if all else fails they "try" to copy them.

ahh from the makers of "Vista".
They should then change their name from "Yahoo!" to "Oh..great.."

Microsoft can have Yahoo, I never use them anyway.
Microsoft wants to have total control of everything in cyberspace or everything to do with computers, softwares, hardwares and cyberspace.
Soon it will not be FREE to browse and your IP will be billed automatically the moment you click on the (E...AKA: Internet Explorer).
Soon all searches will no longer be FREE and all search engine will soon be asking for your credit card for fees.
And you won't be able to buy computer, they will be leased with terms and monthly rent instead. Greed, loads of money is simply not enough, they just want more and more and more.... more than more of MORE.

It's actually a shame to see a buyout
like this happening. It's just going
to give them more leverage to try to
bring down Google.
No doubt about it, Micro$oft is out
to control the world.
'
It won't control me. I use Linux, build my
own computers, and usually use Google
as a search engine. To hell with big
brother Bill.

The competition (with Google) is great and hopefully it will bring more benifits to us consumers and searchers.

Copy Cat killed a Rat(Yahoo) Sunday morning eat Google's Rat
So I would never let Microsoft integrate Yahoo e-mail and the sub-standard hotmail. Why can't Microsoft leave others alone and have a different outlook...Save YAHOO !!!
YAHOO !!!! Let it prevail

Micro$oft's "ethical origins" can be understood a lot better, if you watch "Pirates of Silicon Valley", a movie about the shady world of Silicon Valley!
Maybe the name "Digital Research" will start to make some sense! Those are the guys that wrote the first and most reliable operating system for Intel 8086/8088 processors that started the PC revolution.
Make yourself some popcorn, open your NetFlix package and start watching! You are in for an exciting journey!

In the event that Microsoft were to acquire Yahoo. I'll close all of my Yahoo accounts and discontinue paying for any services through them.
Shareholders and the Board of Directors are stupid (not to mention government regulators) if they believe that this is a good move for Yahoo and the future of the company since Microsoft is on its downward cycle.
Additionally, I will more than likely prohibit the use of the Yahoo! search engine on any of the networks that I manage. I currently prohibit the use of the Microsoft's search engine. (I enforce this through the proxy.) Perhaps some other administrators should do the same.

keyfitter1 year, 5 months ago
Prohibiting Microsoft's search engine is a
very small loss to users. Maybe if enough
people started boycotting anything that
Microsoft offers, they might be forced into
learning ethics and developing better products.
'
The scary thing about Microsoft is that once
they have succeeded in doing away with any and all
competition, everyone is stuck with whatever crap
they decide to provide for us, at ridiculous prices.

It seems like a lot of companies are buying out other companies. I think they do this so they can increase the value of their stock.
It is only a farce as they may lay off a few people to say they saved some money.
Yahoo is only good for email and groups. I bet microsoft will charge when they take over and continue to lose more customers.
I used to read the news on yahoo but since they eliminated the discuss feature I do not bother.
I am a 51 year old woman and no I do not want to see cindy's pics. They must be desperate!
