I found it funny and surprising that a lot of the cool gadgets I see online are not to be found in many of the store shelves in the country. here is a list of ten cool ones I hope to lay my hands on.
Now, one has to rely on online stores and pay extra for shipping before one can own one of these.

As I also live in Japan, I am familiar with those toys, and I would add the AIBO from Sony as a robot pet. It has very complex personal interaction patterns and it is very impressive to see one in action. The website is in Japanese and quite difficult to get to the scenes where you can see the interaction movies. Although I will try to get them another time. I wanted to test the portable widescreen glasses. I will try to buy them next time when I fly American airlines or JAL. They are sold on board.

They are sold on board? Wow, did not know that piece of info. I actually had the Aibo in mind. My research had even shown a pink one that is sold only in Japan. I tried my best to narrow the list down to ten. There are however hundreds. Just after I wrote the article I saw this phone which is a cigar case too. I think that one is sold only in China. Like I said, the list goes on.

You know, I was completely satisfied before I read this piece, now I am filled with longing and irritation. Those are so cool, I want at least half of them!!! I wonder if I can get them on eBay from an overseas seller?

They aren't banned they were selling them in Kohl's department stores at Christmas time.
The whole story is less really just a creation by someone that must live in a pretty backwoods place. I've seen several of those so called banned items for sale in actual stores.

They are banned in a sense that they are not sold on any store in the country and one can only get them by going thru an online seller. When one thinks about it, one can get anything if one knows where to look and if one has the money.
These devices can reach your homes but with a price. For one they don't have warranty as good as the ones we get when we buy from stores in here. Some require special modifications to be in english etc.etc. Shipping makes them a bit more expensive too.

I wouldn't mind a bunny that can give me the local weather report when the nearest news stations are 200 miles away and only give their weather...

I guess that's what makes them fit the description "banned"
1. they cost a lot now because of the shipping and all those stuff.
2. You have to find them online. No stores have them on their shelves.
3. They are pretty much a risk to buy because of warranty issues etc. etc.
4. If something goes wrong you get referred to some offshore manufacturer who will tell you that you are not supposed to own one of their devices in the first place.
I appreciate the efforts of those who sell these online though in bringin these technology to our shores.

Their again this product is not only not banned but a rip off of a product that was out in the 90's where you wore glasses with little LEDs that flickered while you had your eyes closed. I'm just not sure why this list says banned... though with this one I could see it being banned by the FTC for making false claims.

The title of the article is misleading. None of these gadgets are "banned" in the U.S. And I know for a fact that at least one of the "banned" items is available for sale in the U.S. (The Sony bit mini is available at Staples). These seems like a clever marketting ploy. Get American consumers to "demand" stuff that's "banned" in the U.S. and drive up your profits.

Banned
- to prohibit, forbid, or bar; interdict (note how it does not mean that a banned thing necessarily has to be illegal)
- informal denunciation or prohibition, as by public opinion
- to bar from; to restrict access to, to exile. (Urban Dictionary)
- a form of discrimination or censorship
- to limit or totally cut access to
So are these devices banned in the US stores? Pretty much. Unless you can point me to a store that sells those Nazbaztag/tag. I want one for my girl. :) It changes quickly in truth. As of the moment, I think Cingular is starting to offer the HTC TyTN only under a different name.

I think the title does exactly what it's supposed to: gets peoples' attention. It even makes sense if you think about it.

I work in technology and from my prespective the USA sucks in the whole game. Its all about the old cats....like the Washington Mutual TV ads....they always want to cut the newer or better concepts out until they can for sure maintain the status quo. Jobs go to other countries....out source they call it. People come here and get the Tech Jobs before Americans get a crack at it...then they want to lay us off to hire more dudes overseas and pay them more money....while the old dudes here continue maintaining status quo....those WM ads are so true and its not surprising to me that cool gadgets are banded or only available first in other countries....

I don't see why they are banned, unless as someone said above or on the site that you just can't find them in stores in the US. Does that mean I couldn't order something online and have it shipped to me in the US, even if the store is in a different country?
