Re: Why are Websites Still Forcing People to Use IE?

Approximately 79% of internet surfers use internet explorer. Why design a site (especially a business site) that may not be compatable (or display correctly) with 79% of your visitors?

I agree. Until something better and more popular comes along what else should one use?

netscape and firefox are both faster browsers and don't make that annoying "click-clack" noise by default

It shouldn't be an either/or. Any website you release should be tested and work in all major browsers and not use proprietary technologies like VBScript to ensure compatibility across platforms and browsers.

Why would you not design for all browsers? If you can't see it with Firefox or Safari (the most secure browsers), then I don't see it. Period.

It is totally possible to design websites that are compatible with all the major browsers.

my theory is that the ones who do so use utilities built by micosoft.

So they don't make their websites that way because they want to, but rather because they are n00blets and don't know HTML and JAVA very well ; )

This wouldn't be a problem if they wouldn't have dropped to lawsuit against Microsoft.

I agree. If i had my way i would throw out every thing that says Microsoft on it. Unfortunately people don't care to learn how to make a computer work for them and then throw together websites in frontpage and put them up on windows servers running IIS. This is the key problem. They need to set up a Linux server with Apache and develop there web pages the right way.

To me, it doesn't make sense to design a website that is ONLY compatible with IE. I have come across several sites like that and it even forced me to choose an alternative phone service because of Bellsouth's website only being compatible with IE.

For Mac users, IE is not an option since Microsoft quit the development and support.

I personally use Firefox to browse the net.
