How Security Companies Sucker Us With Lemons

Gadgets & Tech – On the surface, this is just another snake-oil security story. But there's a deeper question: Why are there so many bad security products out there?

To understand this you need to understand marketing and advertising.

You sell the sizzle, not the steak.

You don't have to sell actual security if you can make the buyer feel secure. This is the way most print and tv/radio ads work. The ad is successful if they can make an emotional connection with you. The specific product is irrelevant. It is the emotional connection (the secure feeling) that is sold.

When Al Gore sells carbon credits he plants a tree that is 1' tall and won't do any good clearing the air for 20 years. What Gore is really selling is the feeling that you are helping the planet. He is selling a clear conscience not clean air.

A Prius needs to have the batteries replaced after 50K miles. There are all sorts of nasty stuff in lead acid batteries and the positive impact of a Prius on the air is offset by disposal of the batteries. But Libs still buy the Prius because it makes them feel like they are saving the planet.

This is about feelings and not reality.

I'll tell you why....cause there are people out there who want to make a quick buck no matter what....and they don't care about anything but money. Why do you think there are so many get-rich-quick schemes?
