Thank you Google. And I hope you win against Viacom. While I respect the idea of Intellectual Property Protection, I think Viacom stands more to gain than loose by having their content searchable. If the Viacom suit prevails, the DMCA may be out the window and while Viacom gets richer, the whole world goes without search engines and all they bring us.

Judge probably splits the baby and gives Viacom something. It will set a precedent more importantly for sueitis.

They more than likely did this in response to more people switching to scroogle.org, the google-anonymizing browser.

I am not so sure whether Google does more harm than good to this generation, but it definitely changes the way we use Internet.

I guess 18-24 months will give the police in China enough time to find those illegal googlers. No reason to keep the data at all unless you don't care about privacy.

Privacy being the most important thing should not be ignored and this is indeed a good one from Google.

It's a nice gesture, but ever since CARNIVORE it's been somewhat futile. All someone has to do is watch incoming traffic for an IP and trace back the requesting IP. Your only hope for privacy is spoofing your IP (and you better know how to really do it), using someone else's wireless (away from where you are), public nodes where no cameras are present, &c.

There is no need for them to keep track of my name (easily enough found out) and every search I do. There is NO need to keep it ever. They are just placting the masses minorly.
