Interesting stuff, but I don't understand how it works exactly. If a site gets hundreds of votes, and then gets buried, does that mean it had the same number or more of thumbs down votes?

Those of you who know us both will know that DavidHalko and I often disagree about political issues posted hereon. You may be surprised to learn that I count David as a real friend and we often exchange private messages about various issues.

My reason? How am I going to learn anything worthwhile form a group of posters who walk in lockstep with me? Digg's policy of letting negative votes bury articles ensures that it will more and more become nothing but a mutual admiration society.

Netscape says Sinks don't detract from votes. I pray that is true and that it remains so. Social Media sites are utterly worthless if they only preach a certain party line, no matter what that party line might be. Allowing negative voted to dump articles ensures that the Social Media site will become increasingly biased toward one viewpoint only -- in other words, useless unless you agree with that viewpoint and have such a fragile ego you can stand no dissent of any kind.

It's very interesting what the key "bad" motives are for an editor somewhere that is up to know good vs. a group of social news guys or an individual. Very different "agendas" if they are up to no good.
