Nov. 28, 2006, 3:50 p.m.Docj...
'So far the only change since Monday is that Netscape is now slower than ice cold molasses'.
So True....
This is what X GM of the new Netscape Jason Calacanis and Jason Jr. CK are so Proud of...
What a disgrace, the old system was far better than this garbage...
Where is CK and the so called OPed anchors?????
----------...
CK, you are in charge now, what's your Opinion?????
Sincerely,
-

Nov. 28, 2006, 8:25 p.m.After Jason Calacanis left, you referred to his sucessor, C.K.Sample, as "Jason, Jr." Mr. Sample quickly replied and asked (nicely, I thought) that you not refer to him as "Jason, Jr." again. Since then I have seen you use your chosen epithet in referring to C. K. on several occasions, including above.
I would like to congratulate Mr. Sample for demonstrating his ability to maintain his dignity and good judgement in the face of your deliberate and infantile provocation. A lesser man would have banished you long before now.
I would also like to point out that it is solely by your behavior here that your peers form their opinions of you. Those opinions cannot remain very high if you persist in acting like a child.

Nov. 29, 2006, 9:30 a.m.Again, please don't call me Jason Jr.
Last night we had an issue with two of our advertisements causing a memory leak in Firefox, but that's fixed now, so the site should be faster.
Hobe, you seem obsessed with the idea of bringing back the old Netscape format. That's not happening. Let it go.
This isn't some off-hand decision. Ending the old format was already on the table before Jason and I showed up. The old format was run by well over 100 people and the numbers were going downhill. We're currently running this version of the site with under 25 people and the numbers are pointed up for the first time in years (admittedly, after an initial dip that was expected).
That being said, if there is something I/we can do to make Netscape in its current format better or more appealing to you, please let us know. We're here to serve (within the boundaries of what is reasonable and of what we are able to change; we are not able to bring back the old Netscape).

Nov. 28, 2006, 3:58 p.m.i just noticed the new stats on the front page... nice to see worker has the most comments despite scape discrimination and completely unfair suspension
-

Nov. 28, 2006, 4:09 p.m.Apparently, worker is a top contributor in more ways than one. Awesome!
-

ck
Nov. 28, 2006, 4:31 p.m.The suspension wasn't unfair. worker was spamming comment threads with the same information, the message from Jason, which he was posting to multiple threads that had nothing to do with the story in question. If he had done it to just one story it wouldn't have been an issue. However, he posted it to every story on the homepage and that constitutes spamming according to our rules. It wasn't discrimination. It was normal enforcement of our rules.

Nov. 28, 2006, 5:21 p.m.Ever since they changed from the old format, I have hated it, and very rarely use Netscape anymore. Now they wanna change it some more?

Nov. 28, 2006, 6:23 p.m.I for one liked the avatar pictures next to the story. Some people go by the avatars instead of the name..Oh well, whats next??? And it could take longer for the votes now because Im not sure of alot of the names either..The only thing I do like about the change is it now shows you which Netscape anchors are on shift. Before I had to message all of them just to get one to answer me back if I had a problem.

Nov. 28, 2006, 6:32 p.m.I would suggest Netscape do something about the horrible AIM mail service they have dumped their former users into.
If not for the fact that I have had the email acct name for almost 10 years, I would drop it immediately. The portal to the acct is so slow, it takes 10-15 minutes just direct to my acct and load. Opening messages is even worse. What is all that stupid stuff on the front of the protal, anyway? I just want my mail, I do not care about stupid LCD current events, and they take several minutes to load.
AOL is the worst - that is why I went to Netscape in the first place. I hate that Netscape has dumped this AIM crap on their loyal users. I do not have this problem with my HOTmail or Yahoo accts.
Thanks a lot for the mess

Nov. 28, 2006, 7 p.m.sometimes pages dont even load now. plus when i click on the title it doesnt take me to the story, it takes me to a whole bunch of stories. i have to look for the really tiny view story button. plus sometimes when i log in it takes me to a random story i dont want to look at. and when i'm looking at a story and log on to make a comment, it throws me to the homepage, is this just me?

Nov. 28, 2006, 8:12 p.m.I also miss the top 3 stories from each section. Then on the right side near the bottom is too much empty space and it looks silly.

Nov. 29, 2006, 12:38 a.m.Over the last few weeks, I have noticed that the name of the poster (beside their avatar) is shrunken, squashed and distorted. They are no longer capable of been read/recognised at a glance. I don't think I have changed any settings on my comp, the rest of the text is fine.
Anyone else noticed that problem?

Nov. 29, 2006, 8:14 a.m.The test homepage was posted in the blog, you could have submitted your opinion then. All of the Anchors and Navigators are available to listen to comments, you can send them a message at any time.

Nov. 29, 2006, 10:40 a.m.The anchors, devs and navigators (myself included) have been very open with any changes and suggestions. Everyone has a say in things that are added, deleted, not used, etc. A simple yes/no voting mechanism may be convenient, but it doesn't tell anyone exactly what you like and what you don't like. How is that useful from a development standpoint? If you simply marked this new homepage as "no" it could mean you didn't like the background color, the load times, the avatars, the "source" link or the netscape logo. So your idea of a simple yes/no isn't really useful. That being said, you've also implied that you don't have any input and that's simply not true as evidenced by C.K.'s comments in this thread.

Nov. 29, 2006, 3:27 a.m.I like the new changes, the site looks slicker and more usable.
What I never understood is the "Find New Stories" section. I would expect to see the same format as any other section, where one can vote for the stories while reading the summaries. Instead you have to open the story in a new window and then vote. This dicourages voting for new stories, thus creating a system by which the only way to really get new stories in, is by only voting for your friends' submissions.
In my opinion, getting poeple to review new stories should be as important as having them read the front page news.

Nov. 29, 2006, 3:33 a.m.put the soure url back to the story...there are trusted sources and those i really do not care to even look at, putthe source url/domain back as a part of the post, the purpose should be for us to quickly scan a page look at things that might peek our interest and be able to quickly disern reliability level based on our experiences

Nov. 29, 2006, 3:43 a.m.after we initially scape a story we are given another page to go ahead and submit the story. on this page we are presented with similar stories. it would be great to see the source url as well as how long ago the similar story was submitted. this would help us determine if we are adding additional information to accompany the original post or if we are posting a duplicate.

Nov. 29, 2006, 4:25 a.m.Netscape needs competent programming rather than meaningless "face-lifts" My Netscape 7.2 comes up with error messages all over it. I DXed Netscape 8.2 because it was so full of bugs!
Netscape has become a disgrace!

Nov. 29, 2006, 8:17 a.m.Your talking about two different things, one is a browser the other a website. Right now we are talking about Netscape.com.

Nov. 29, 2006, 9:24 a.m.I saw these kinds of comments on previous posts about Netscape and was shocked to find out that the browser still exists. I was pleasantly surprised to find out not only that it exists, but that it is considered a very good browser in terms of the underlying technology.

Nov. 29, 2006, 6:56 p.m.You don't think the problem might lie with the configuration of your computer or, dare I say it, with you.
I have been using Netscape for years, it was the first browser afterall, and I have rarely had any problems with it.
Its the same old story, so many people moan about how slow their computers have got, applications 'full of 'bugs', their hard disks 'full of virus's' etc. etc. when in fact there is nothing wrong with them at all.
