Full steam ahead with Netscape.com

Gadgets & Tech – CK weighs in on his blog about Netscape and his promotion: As you all most likely know by now, Jason is exiting Netscape, stage right. I just wanted to weigh in to say Netscape isn't going anywhere other than onwards and upwards. I'm taking over the helm of the site with Jason leaving, we've been building up our development team and...

Good luck CK.

Seemed you're were doing all the heavy lifting around here anyway. Jason came off as one of those "big ideas, zero execution" type of guys. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Unless you're the guy doing all the execution, heh heh ;)

Yeah! Lots of questions/suggestions:

1. "Reply to comment" feature has stopped working!

2. A spellcheck feature should be a "must add" feature, alongwith other WP features, such as bold, italic, highlight, as well as a way to create a link. Right now, if I want to give a link, I have to go through a set of contortions such as minimize, find, copy, maximize, paste etc. Communicating must be made easy! Right now, it feels like MS-DOS :<

3. There must be a way to communicate with you guys with suggestions, comments, etc.

4. The active stories should be displayed on the right hand, along with the number of comments, so that one can join the discussion just by clicking on the active site.

5. When a comment overflows, there should be a way to continue the comment to the next spot, with a continuation mark.

6. There should be an easy way to create your own avatar, as well as to add emoticons.

-More to come later!

I agree totally with spellcheck, italics and bold, right now the only way to indicate you're stressing a word is caps which I hate because it's not like I'm SHOUTING the word.

It would also be cool to move the emoticons off the internet chat thing and onto the regular response boards. You can only do so much with a keyboard. :|

Good luck C.K.!

I've always been a fan of putting asterisks around words that are beings stressed, because then you don't have to feel like you're *shouting.* :-)

1. "Reply to comment" is working for me; feel free to message me privately if you'd like to try and work out the problem.

3. You should feel free to message anyone listed on the "About" page ( http://www.netscape.com/about/ ) with questions/comments/concerns. Any staff member that is currently online will have a "Send Message" link under their name; otherwise, you can open their profile and message them from there.

1. See Chris's comment. This should be working.

2. All those are great ideas. We'll see what we can do.

3. You can send me a message any time. I'm all ears.

4. I'm not sure if I am following you on this one. Could you elaborate?

5. Brevity is something something... ;-) However, noted.

6. A Netscape Avatar creator? I like that idea.

the upgrade of XP crashed my wife's computer and burned up the modem. i can't run Netscape 8, because i don't have XP. netscape soldout when it joined with AOL, i lost my netscape mail acct., because of AOL. the only resaon i like netscape is because most viruses only chase after microsoft. what kind of privacy do you have when Win98 and XP have each comp's signature file, which alot of people aren't aware of. who's protecting who, or better yet "big brother is watching you".

suggestions? make netscape backwards compatible.

CK i like the look of hometest4. looks clean and loads really quick...but i got broadband. put the avatars back...many folks online identity have a long past with those and are recognized socically and virtually. even if they are the small versions that usually follow the stories.

CK you really need to add the (9 hours and 56 minutes ago by someuser) feature to the section we see after we "check story". this will help us determine if we are submitting a duplicate or one that adds to the content already submitted. I am all about adding to the value of the original "submit" or confirming single source reporting.

Jason made a great move by getting Out or by getting Kicked out..

It's Sad he and his staff destroyed a good running system and replaced it with this garbage...

The Old Netscape Format was by far better then the so-called new one....

So many users are dissapointed because they lost various features/functions and still cannot get them to work. The ultimate solution is for them to go to another site.

Jason Jr. (CK) will continue on the same path...

Nothing will change, unless there is a redesign, and that won't happen, it is business as usual.

Could You just imagine this bunch running an IT organization in a Fortune 500 company?

They wouldn't Last a Week!!! Well Jason didn't last that long did he... Smart move for him, create the problem then Move On???

Sincerely...

Please don't ever refer to me as Jason JR. ever again.

Typical corperate "Hitman" Come in and destroy the old system first so there's no way to go back, install the new system and then they leave. You can adapt or leave. The thing they forget is this is only software so there's no problem going back (Don't hold your breath).

I'd like to say I've been pretty happy with the site so far. I love the respond to comments. I've been able to creat my own avitar pretty easily. I'm on a Mac so I don't have all those "Microsoft" problems.

Good job so far.

Good luck, C.K. I'm sure you'll do fine :-)

I have been vocal that there is a redesign needed, but that doesn't take away from how fun the format is. It's too bad Jason left, but I'm confident that you'll do some good things for Netscape, C.K. Congrats on becoming the big kahuna!

Thanks and regarding the redesign: stay tuned. We have some tweaks that are trickling out soon in preparation for more features and a better overall layout for the site.

It was Jason's vision, but C.K. has been really hands on, you will see some great things coming out in a short while.
