Since it's hard to change the community's mindset it's better to have multiple social news sites focused on specific topics for a very specific community. When you have more targeted sites you have better discussions, and more socializing between like-minded people.

It's a great article, thanks Msaleem for applying more to my original post (Great IM conversation the other day.) Basically you can only adjust to your community so much that in order for other categories to prosper you need a whole new community. As with the case of Digg, tech is the main focus, not like you can throw an art section around and expect it to gain a lot of momentum. Specialized communities will pop a lot more once the trend picks up

I like this article, it made sense to me as to why I didn't like Digg, and MySpace was way too young for me, but Netscape fits just right!

It is great being in the beginning of this site; I enjoy watching it grow and the different characters that participate. It makes for great entertainment while interacting with other like minded or opposite minded.

      Good article thanks!

Social Book marking will I believe continue to have some problems, at least until some decide to treat others with a modicum of civility. And there is always the problem of developing Cliques!

Well done article: goes very well into explaining some of the dynamics we're seeing played out on the site!

I hope once this political battle is played out that perhaps we'll see more of the other channels coming out. For example, there was an interesting article on the benefits of silence just recently... we may ALL need some of that here just to center out!
