Sept. 11, 2006, 9:50 p.m.I think I found a bug. In the anchor activity track entry for this story: http://www.netscape.com/story/2006/09/11/7-days-in-september/
Something in the tracker entry for that story is triggering my flashblock extension in Firefox. The little flash icon from the extension shows but when clicked, no movie. Guessing the tracker is bringing over a snip of code, enough to trigger my extension.

Sept. 12, 2006, 9:52 a.m.I find this interesting that Navigators will now be pruning out Duplicate stories. I find myself reporting Dupe stories, more often with Navigators themselves. Since the navigators function as a group and vote each other up; their duplicate story will rank to the top of the section, and even pinned. I find the lack of a Checks & Balances system, and yet even more moderator control they are given can only detract in the quality of the stories.
I don't fault the other navigators voting on the story; cause well it isn't their fault that they voted for a Dupe story. I hold the responsibility and integrity to the Navigators themselves to only submit unique/rare stories that others have not posted.
On that note; I suggest to both C.K. and Jason to please implement a feedback system back to Navigators on quality, dupes, and whatever else they are held to. As paid employees of Netscape; and thus should be held to an even higher level of editorial and moderator quality.

Sept. 12, 2006, 11:13 a.m.Hey Digital, we've discussed the dupe closing policy with the Navs and it is very clear cut. Whichever story came later gets closed. Even if it is a Navigator story. The only exception to this rule is when the linked to story by the original source is a broken link / a site trying to break the middleman rule by quoting heavily and not linking to the original story.
That being said, I should also note that the Navigators are not employees of Netscape, but freelance contractors working on a work for hire basis. Yes, they should be held to a higher level of editorial and moderator quality, but the Anchors are the definitive editorial presence on the site, so if you notice any issues feel free to contact any of the Anchors, myself, or Jason. That's the feedback methodology for Netscape. We are open to messages. We read them. Contact us with your issues and we will do our best to look into them and resolve them.
