Sept. 7, 2006, 9:53 a.m.Krazymk,
Why is that "funny"? In any event, I think Digg's decision is tactful, albeit well overdue. And that said, the disappoinement to some is inevitable.

Sept. 7, 2006, 12:21 p.m.But seriously everyone...can you believe it? This guy was the NUMBER ONE user at Digg. He was probably recruited heavily to post here.
67% of the top 3 stories on Netscape are about Digg now.

Sept. 7, 2006, 12:45 p.m.I think p9 made some good points in his comment. It does kind of seem like digg has done nothing but slap its top users in the face since around the time Calacanis made his offer.

Sept. 7, 2006, 1:36 p.m.@Neophile - I agree in that the general Digg population has been accusing the top Diggers of abusing the system. Social news sites like Digg and Netscape can become subject to popularity contests rather than content. Along those lines people are jealous of people like P9 because they are popular whether it's from "gaming" the system or whatever, P9 is getting attention and people don't like that, regardless of the quality of the content they post. Any time you have people rating what other people do you end up with "cliques." I think the top Diggers are seen as the snobs of the Digg community. Whether or not they actually are is irrelevant. They are on top and are therefore disliked because of the their popularity.

Krazymk
Sept. 7, 2006, 3:49 p.m.The joke, schestowitz, is his comment on quality. There are a very select few users who's articles make it to the front page. Those users who DO bother making posts about the current events rather than about Digg, some youtube.com video, have a rather pointed agenda that they push. As such, the 'news' is very skewed and directed (and often actually opinion articles from individuals with less credentials than my 13 yr old cousin). The comments often seem to consist mainly of slander by like minded individuals, and unless you have all day to answer 20 different people with no background on the topic, you will not make any headway explaining the failing logic of the Op-Ed writer.

Sept. 7, 2006, 3:58 p.m.Reading the Digg blog it sounds like they want to encourage smart voting while discouraging people from acquiring friends. I think they're going to end up with some weird group of isolated people at the top of the system. Nothing very social (or real) about that.

Sept. 7, 2006, 10:44 p.m.Changing the game to outsmart the competitor is one thing, but ******ing off your top users, What on earth is this guy thinking about?

netizen
Sept. 7, 2006, 11:25 p.m.Why do the top users want more say than everyone else? Why is this? WHY?
The answer is rather simple: They want to become the editors of digg. They want power over the front page because they have nothing else in real life to do. They want to feel important. They have a secret desire to gratify their ego, and live the fantasy of theirs that they are an editor of something.
Very sad imo.

Sept. 8, 2006, 1:23 a.m.ok Honestly I cant see the page because this person used a Paid Server, that obviously didn't like the load. Dude, Apache on OSX!
Now onto the Digg thing. Since i cant see the topic i must go on what others have said. While I might think that the top posters should be perhaps allowed more abilities, more privileges. Its a spot to be earned and maintained. To remain fair a user must maintain a solid reputation. This also means ignoring random reports from butt-heads that flame any one they dont like.
I also agree with some one here that if they focus to much on popularity and charm they loose the original appeal. If Digg's intent was to deliver a Wide variety, and ends up delivering exactly what every one else has... then they fail at their mission.
