Netscape= A once great company who recently failed by throwing millions of dollars marketing a dial-up ISP (which is viewed mostly by people like my grandma who can't change their homepage) who is desperately trying another scheme....... maybe try a pyramid scheme??

Digg= grassroots site with a large but very loyal following

I wonder if most of the Netscape users that are signed up (besides all of the planted corporate lackeys of course) are people like me who are Digg users, but came to see the trainwreck?

I was disappointed by this post, as it positions the discussion on the personal "vs." level. I usually like what Leo has to say and had hoped that he would look at the issue of paying participants who are leaders in the space, rather than approach the topic from the perspective of the personalities involved in the discussion.

No "Netscape Anchor" has voted on this story, and it has not been "pinned" to the top of the home page. I'm appalled.

Oscar, this isn't that interesting. It's just Leo stating his opinion, I for one wouldn't want to see this passing off as real news.

Maybe we do need an "OK, this is lame" feature.

Seriously.. Digg users really do seem to be obsessing over all this. It's like watching a really bad, geeky soap opera that appeals to less than 1% of the 1% on the internet.

Funny, because all their top users don't seem to mind ;)

There are a lot of people out there who think a lot about what Leo has to say. Just because he doesn't seem to be too exited about this crap site, don't think it's lame.

Also, you're right, digg users don't obsess about this on Digg. That got over with in a day or so. When we want to obsess briefly about it, we come here & spread love.

shane_coffey2: You're right. I originally planned to make a single post but I'm having a hard time not posting on this site, not because its good though. It's just hard not to comment on the souless, poorly executed, facsimile of digg thats so desperate that its willing to pay for posters.

When this fails, I'm wondering what Netscape will try next, pyramid schemes?

Josue Salazar, I will try to explain this gently, because you have identified yourself as an experienced blogger, and to me that means that you have very little experience dealing with real people in a real world.

                      1. My comment above was sarcastic. Look up the word "sarcasm" then read it again and see if you can see how I intended to hold the "Netscape Anchors" to a very public ridicule.

                      2. It should be obvious that a story need not be important for the "Netscape Anchors" to heavily promote it. For example, for most of a week four of them, Alexia, Ryan, Randall, and honcho-of-all-Anchors Karina attended, and reported (ad nauseum) how thrilled they were and how exciting the comics are. In other words, they acted as if their childish pursuit was more important than events in Lebanon, bills being discussed in Congress, or legitimate domestic and international news stories of all sorts. But I suppose that, to this group, comics really ARE more important than those things.

I am not sure Leo should have publicly commented on this at all. I just did a podcast about some fishy goings on where Leo is concerned and now this is just more wood for my fire.

If you don't like what Jason is doing, then stay over at Digg and support that site. Don't keep coming over here are boring us all with your same points posted ad nauseum.

Oscar, sarcasm, unless clearly implied or specifically specified, is not evident without verbal or physical clues. Forgive my literal interpretation of your comment, but please, in the future, no "gentle" lectures are necessary.

I know people will be saying godd riddance to me around here, and thats okay.

One more thing, I noticed early yesterday morning that you still have some rogue scripts installed from that hacker attack. I got some javascript popups that said "******" and "greetings to all you diggers ;)"

I'm not sure if you've found them all yet.

mateo600, I just prefer it over Digg (nothing wrong with either of them, in fact more power to the people who now have a choice).

The thing is, if you're not adding value to the conversation why keep commenting? That's why I said you were better off in Digg, you could actually add some value to the conversations there, here you just bitch about the site.

About the pop ups, I saw them as well, and actually blogged about it (theubergeeks.net). I wish we'd get a response from Netscape about it actually.
