June 30, 2006, 12:06 p.m.you can send messages to your netscape friends now, Its just not done so live like IM's. I think 30 chat rooms, 1 for each channel might be interesting as well.

June 30, 2006, 12:36 p.m.Sorry but this link you refer too: http://isp.netscape.com, doesn't bring back the old Netscape home page. It's better than what they are offering today but still a far cry from the former version. I'll never understand how companies can launch such major changes to their product and not perform the user accpetance testing first. Netscape, you screwed up this time.

June 30, 2006, 12:41 p.m.I am a long time (what 8 years?) Netscape user. Obviously it satisfies my needs. I know nothing about technology - what is Digg?
I spent a little time with the new set-up yesterday. I like being able to vote on what I see. I am really bored with the limitations we have had with news. There is a real world out there folks. If we limit ourselves to what is available locally - in the US - we are completely ignorant in coparison with what people in most of the rest of the developed world know about this world.
I was happy to have some input on future content, but disappointed by the available sources posted thus far. I voted a little.
I will try o input my own ideas in later. But I really have no time for this.
My computer is my tool.

June 30, 2006, 1:20 p.m.What perplexes me is this:
When I opened the front page this "story" was featured number 2. Yet it is not a story at all, just a commentary page.
Ok, so it is not "news", but it is information.
But what makes it rank so high? Certainly not user comments or votes since many others have more of each. Also it is not even accurate, since the URL given does not open the "old" front page but instead one that looks like a slimmed down Ethiopian baby version with much of the content links missing.
So where is the editorial review?
Can "news" be posted that is inaccurate and presented before the public as fact without any repercussions?
How can blog commentary be presented as news when it is just the opinion of one person?
Does that mean I can write a sensational headline for a story on my web site "Invasion of Matian Pigs" and it become fact because it's on a "news" site?
Make a blogging forum, but don't confuse it with actual news content.

June 30, 2006, 2:24 p.m.Not sure that I am going to like this new netscape so far I don't. Will give it a couple days and then off to Yahoo.

June 30, 2006, 2:27 p.m.There's editorial review in the way of follow up on stories. Content is submitted by users, and voted on by users.
The stories that make the front page are placed on the front page on a number of criteria -- all of which are automated based on user activity. Votes is the primary deciding factor, but age of a story counts for a ton -- the older a story is, the faster it falls from the ranks.
If you are not pleased with the content, consider submitting something that you think is interesting/entertaining. This is a community driven site now :)

June 30, 2006, 2:44 p.m.As a news junkie, i had really enjoyed Netscape old home pages because the way it was viewed. News was easy to find and read the stories i wanted too.
This new format really SUCKS.... When I read a news story I DO NOT want to read comments from other. Nor their opinion.
if you want to force this type a page on us. then I suggest you have a BLOGERS PAGE. and those who want that as their HOME PAGE,,,so be it. but don’t force bogglers down out throats.
BRING BACK THE OLD HOME PAGE.... otherwise, IM GONE to either YAHOO or GOOGLE

June 30, 2006, 2:53 p.m.I concur with the disappointments voiced over the 'surprise' launch, the loss of my 'old', comfortable page, and the intrusion of 'news' above all else...I have a Netscape ISP account, HAD a Netscape account with a my.Netscape.com page; also have a good Yahoo page that doesn't accost me with other people's opinions...I can cope with the new thing but don't like it, don't WANT to cope, with appearance or options...probably won't be back to my Netscape.com and that bugs me because my netscape.net address is my primary email account...will have to inform all correspondents I'm leaving...and that's a TON of folks! And I'm going to tell them why...

June 30, 2006, 3:01 p.m.Signed-uSigned-up just to post a review of the "new" Netscape.
What are "they" thinking??
Marketing hacks must of surveyed sensory deprived jellyfish as focus group respondents.
Catastrophic business move. Terminate the responsible and conduct intellect search

June 30, 2006, 3:12 p.m.This SUCKS! If I wanted a blog site, I would have joined one. I want news stories, not someone's opinion of them, nor do I want to read only those stories that someone else decides I should read. The link to the 'old' Netscape is close, but it isn't the same and not what I want. If I'm going to have to learn to like a new home page I can guarantee it isn't going to be the new Netscape, or even the new 'old' Netscape. I really believe Netscape shot themselves in the foot on this one. But maybe that's exactly what they wanted......remove the competition????? I'll give it another day or so and I'm moving to another homepage and another product!

June 30, 2006, 3:15 p.m.I intentionally have my default set to another page I use. I DO NOT want to have to change it to avoid the "new" Netscape, which I abhor.
Instead, I accessed when I wanted by using the "Netscape" button at the top left of the tool bar. Now it goes to the abhored "new" page. At the very least, please put a link to the "old" at the top of the "new", so I can easily manuever to it.
I preferred the "old" because I could look at alot of headlines without having to scroll. Now I gotta scroll, and scroll and scroll... only to have my headlines presented in the order someone else thinks is noteworthy. Seriously, what were you thinking-- were drugs involved?
